Goal 6 - Engage in ongoing professional growth and leadership
Teachers must be willing to be lifelong learners about best practices within their field, because knowledge and technology is always evolving. There are different ways to engage in ongoing professional growth, such as by conducting and evaluating research, and collaborating with peers and other professionals in local and global learning communities. I believe that effective educators utilize both means to expand their knowledge and skills within the profession.
I am a teacher who enjoys and embraces change. Therefore, I am comfortable with trying new teaching and learning strategies within my classroom. At my school, teachers are mandated to participate in collaboration meetings four days per week. This is an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge and share what I’ve learned through research, my graduate courses, and my own teaching practice. I have also engaged in ongoing professional growth by participating in various district-offered trainings, and by providing professional development to others so that my new knowledge and skills can benefit other teachers and students in the WAWM school district. Although there is always room to grow within this goal, I feel confident in my abilities to perform the skills it entails.
